1st clinical rotation prep

Setting: I'll be in a family primary care setting, paired w/ an FNP. This is going to be my 1st NP clinical rotation.

Preparation prior to start of clinical rotation for (will be overwhelmed, can't learn on the job):

Chronic disorders to look up for:
Screenings for HTN, diabetes, cholesterol, cancer, thyroid, colonoscopy, breast cancer, pap smear, osteoporosis, prostate cancer, etc.
BP: low, high, what's appropriate for age, side effects, A1C
Meds for these conditions HTN, A1C, cholesterol, diabetes type 2, thyroid (synthroid = levothyroxine), etc.

Acute disorders to look up for: sore throat, cough, back pain, shoulder pain, knee pain, red eye, rash, headaches, stomachache, abd. pain, chest pain, breast lump, insomnia, chronic kidney disease (mostly caused by HTN and/or diabetes), etc.

Skills: EKG, IV line, etc. C-Xray probably not.

My purpose:
- Do organized and effective physical exams for all body systems.
- Demonstrate diagnostic skills (Differential diagnoses) - to a certain degree since I'm not well-versed in this just yet.
- Interpret pertinent lab tests, C-Xray, EKG, etc.
- Learn to perform advanced procedures, if any

Attitude:
Enthusiastic, earnest, Helpful, Ask only questions I have already looked up but still find it confusing.

Mobile phone use: better not use at all bc they will confuse that ur bored

Paperwork (documentation, logging, etc.):
- prepare a review sheet for every patient. Example: http://meded.ucsd.edu/clinicalmed/clinic.htm
- try to reflect on the patient by thing of case scenarios with what you've learned from the books.  Keep track of patients you see. Use this to build your patient case loads for my portfolio.

Dress code:
- White lab coat
- Student ID prominent.
- Professionally dressedp

Conduct:
- Early actually
- Don't ask questions from preceptors during patient encounter
